Frizz is not a styling problem. It is a moisture problem.
When the hair cuticle; the outermost layer of each strand; is raised or damaged, it absorbs humidity from the air unevenly. The result is the unpredictable, voluminous frizz that no amount of brushing seems to resolve. To genuinely address it, the cuticle needs to be sealed, smoothed, and consistently nourished. That is precisely what argan oil does, and why it has become the gold standard in frizz control for every hair type.
Not all oils behave the same way on the hair shaft. Many ; coconut oil, castor oil, and most mineral oils ; sit on the surface of the strand, coating it temporarily without penetrating the cuticle. The relief is short-lived, and the buildup accumulates over time.
Argan oil is different in composition. Rich in oleic and linoleic fatty acids, it is light enough to penetrate the hair shaft rather than merely coat it. In addition, its high concentration of vitamin E tocotrienols works to repair oxidative damage along the cuticle, the kind of damage caused by heat styling, UV exposure, and chemical treatments that are among the primary causes of chronic frizz.
Furthermore, argan oil has a natural affinity with the keratin structure of hair. It does not fight the strand, it integrates with it, smoothing the cuticle from within and reducing the porosity that makes hair vulnerable to humidity in the first place.
The result is not just temporary smoothness. With consistent use, argan oil addresses the structural conditions that cause frizz, rather than masking them.
As a Pre-Wash Treatment
Apply 4 to 6 drops of argan oil to dry hair, working from mid-lengths to ends. Leave it for a minimum of 30 minutes; or overnight for severely damaged hair; before washing as normal. This method saturates the cuticle before it is exposed to the stripping effect of shampoo, significantly reducing post-wash frizz.
As a Leave-In Finishing Oil
After washing, towel-dry hair gently and apply 2 to 3 drops of argan oil to damp hair before styling. Distribute it evenly through the mid-lengths and ends, avoiding the roots. This seals moisture into the strand before it has the chance to escape into the air, the key moment when humidity-induced frizz typically takes hold.
As a Daily Smoothing Treatment
For fine or straight hair types that find heavier treatments too rich, a single drop of argan oil warmed between the palms and smoothed lightly over dry hair eliminates surface frizz and restores shine without weight or greasiness. This works particularly well in humid climates or during summer months, when frizz is at its most persistent.
The effectiveness of argan oil depends entirely on its purity. A diluted or adulterated product; one blended with silicones, mineral oils, or fragrance; will behave like those additives, not like argan oil. The cuticle-sealing, moisture-retaining properties that make argan oil effective against frizz are only present in cold-pressed, unrefined oil.
When selecting an argan oil for frizzy hair, look for:
Arganosa was built around a single focus: cosmetic-grade argan oil, cold-pressed and unrefined, crafted by the women of Agadir for results that go beyond the surface. One drop is enough. No silicones, no dilution, no compromise.
If frizz has felt like an unsolvable problem, the answer may simply be the right oil, used correctly, and used consistently.
